2009 March Snow Patrol
From Gold Hills Posse 4x4 Club
Our second Iron Mountain Road Snow Patrol had much nicer weather than the first one this year with clear skies and bright sun. Perfect sunburn weather.
In attendance were:
- Justin & Dozer - silver LJ
- Joe - white TJ
- Sue - green TJ
- Brendan & Carson- tan TJ
- Kevin - white YJ
- Bill & Zachary - tan LJ
- Fred - silver TJ
We met at the Pollock Pines Shell station & Subway sandwich shop and departed for the trailhead about 9:40. There was quite a bit of snow on the sides of Sly Park Road but the road was clear all the way to the information station on Iron Mountain Road. We picked up our clip boards and safety cones and headed east to find a good place to set up "camp". With the road being so clear we didn't run into decent snow until we got east of the Pebble Canyon Rd intersection.
We set up our gear about 10:30 and started counting vehicles. Considering the great weather and the recent snow there were very few vehicles going by. Shortly after getting things organized we had a great Critter Chili Brunch and later enjoyed grilled hot links and hamburgers thanks to Joe and Sue, our newest club members. Thank you for the excellent meal Joe & Sue.
After lunch Bill, Zachary & Kevin headed out to do a little exploring before having to head home. Justin left a little while later so he wouldn't be late for a prior obligation. Brendan, Joe, Sue and Fred stuck around until 3:00 pm.
We counted about 40 vehicles that passed our location and a hand full of quads and snowmobiles. On our way back to the information station to return the clip boards and cones we ran across 18 more vehicles, a couple quads and cross country skier. We decided to include these in our counts as well.
Overall, it was a great day in the outdoors with good friends.
